Activity Ideas for Cold Winter Evenings

With the cold weather outside our doors, finding ways to keep busy during the evenings can be difficult, especially if we don’t want everyone glued to screens.

There are many ways you can enjoy these dark evenings, either on your own or with family and friends.

Winter is a magical time of year, especially in the run-up to Christmas. If you want to get into the festive spirit and enjoy a fun and enchanting time, heading to one of the many Christmas markets across the UK is a great idea. Many of these continue to operate into the evening so even if you are at work in the day you can enjoy the festivities, beautiful lights, and great atmosphere as well as some excellent Christmas shopping opportunities

Take in the local decorations

A simple and low-cost idea is to enjoy a walk with your partner or family and enjoy the crisp winter air as you take in the decorations around you. Seeing peoples’ homes lit up with lights and decorations or taking a stroll through the town to enjoy the beautifully decorated public areas can help to inspire you and really get you into the mood for Christmas.

Of course, you may not want to face the bitter cold that comes with winter evenings, in which case enjoying entertainment in your own home is a great option.

Family Games Night

Having a games evening can while away the hours and can be great fun. Choose your games wisely, especially if you have young players, Monopoly can take a long time to finish as can chess, so if bedtimes are near maybe choose a quick card game or eye spy!

Another great activity that you can enjoy at home during the winter evenings is to do some baking. This is something that you can even get the kids involved with, and you can rustle up some delicious treats ready for Christmas. What’s more, you can give your house that wonderful aroma that only comes with freshly baked goodies so no need to buy scented candles to make your home smell more festive!
